What we’re chasing isn’t always easy. There’s two weird nuances to it.

The whole Widow / Widower thing. That involves giving your heart to someone who never would have chosen to walk away from what they had. Are they healed enough to do this? Am I?

Then there’s the distance. Long distance relationships are not for the faint of heart. So much joy for two or four or eight days at a time. Then so much heartache as you drive away to spend 14 or 20 days apart.

Falling in love with him was the easiest and hardest thing I’ve ever done. It encompasses all the healing, all the gratefulness, all the contentment, all the frustration, all the insecurities, all the second-guessing and all the happy and sad tears.

He’s talked me off the proverbial ledge more times than I can count. And when I think to myself, “what did I ever do to deserve this?”, God brings one word to mind every time… Reward.

Because there’s typically 328-ish miles separating us on any given day, most of what we share is a lot of words. I find myself feverishly typing in the notes of my phone as he’s talking, so that I never forget the most beautiful ones, so that in the hard moments I can remember why this is worth the wait. Worth the miles…

Being with him feels instinctual.
